From November 2024 to January 2025, discover “Sous le Ciel”, a unique exhibition by Nou Sary.
THE ARTIST
Born in 1971 in Cambodia’s Kandal Province, Nou Sary, one of six children from a rice-farming family, set out for Phnom Penh at age 12, determined to pursue an education. Taken in by a local shelter, Sary completed high school after nine years of hard work and sacrifice. He then enrolled at the Royal University of Fine Arts, balancing night classes in painting and sculpture while working as a security guard and even sleeping in classrooms.
In 1999, with a Diploma in Arts, Sary joined the French Embassy gallery, where he thrived in workshops and worked alongside visiting artists. Sponsored by the Embassy, he went on to train in Paris with artist Philippe Richard in 2000, and shortly after, he earned a scholarship to the High School of Art and Design in Saint-Etienne. When funding abruptly ended in 2003, Sary supported himself by training as a chef, and ultimately earning his Diploma in Fine Arts in 2006.
In 2013, after years of dedication to his craft, Sary returned to Cambodia and settled in Siem Reap, where he now lives with his wife and son, continuing his artistic journey.
THE EXHIBITION
When asked about his inspiration, Nou Sary replied: ”My inspiration is driven by a deep love for nature that sustains us and a heartfelt hope for a brighter future for my country.”
”Sous le Ciel” is Nou Sary’s latest compositions. In this exhibition, Nou Sary captures and painted Cambodia’s landscapes from an aerial view, revealing the beauty and spirit of his homeland as seen from above.
We invite you to discover these new artworks, and immersive in the beauty of Cambodian landscapes through Nou Sary’s eyes.
